Afghanistan – a men’s prison for women

Photos by Marzena Hmielewicz / Adventure Pictures

It’s the 21st century. We fly into space, cancer treatment is getting better, and cell phones have coverage even in subway tunnels. Meanwhile, in Afghanistan, most women are still not allowed to leave the house alone, on the street they can only appear in the company of a husband or brother. And even that is covered from head to toe tightly with a burqa with a check over the eyes. I went to Afghanistan to see those Afghan women who want to break with tradition. I wanted to find out if they want to study, work and if they can decide their own future. And how they see that future.
